Baking eggshells for the chickens is a great source of calcium for them to lay beautiful eggs. I rinse out the shells as we use them and store in a container. When it's full, I spread them out on a baking sheet and bake for 400°F for about 10 minutes to dry them out well and kill any bacteria. I've read it's not necessary to do this extra step, but I've always been one to err on the safe side.
After they cool down, I just crush them into small pieces and add into their scratch treat.
