Apple Crumble

We always look forward to apple season when Honey Crisp apples are in season!  I used to use Granny Smith for my baking, but since discovering the Honey Crisp, we have preferred this apple for eating and baking needs.  There is a new apple I just tried the other day called a Crisp Pink, which seemed really nice for baking, too.

We hosted a Danish Exchange Student years ago, whom we miss dearly, and she made this simple dessert that her Mormor (I hope that I am sharing this right) taught her.  Very simple, but so tasty.

Baked Apple Crumble

Ingredients:

8-10 apples peeled and sliced
cinnamon sugar to sprinkle
1 cup white flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1 cube butter = 1 stick or ½ cup

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. In greased pie dish, place apple slices and sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar.
  3. In separate bowl, crumble flour, sugar & butter.*   (I just use my hands.)
  4. Place on top of apples and bake for approximately 45-60 minutes until apples are soft and crumb topping has started to brown a little.

*sometimes I will add in a handful of oatmeal to the crumble for an added touch.

This is delicious served with some vanilla ice cream, too!
